Reality television personality Kristin Cavallari has reiterated her assertion that she paid her ex-husband, former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, during their divorce proceedings. Cavallari stated on a recent podcast that she was compelled to give Cutler half the value of her business, Uncommon James, in cash and properties when their marriage legally concluded in 2022.
Cavallari, 39, shared details about her personal finances on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, emphasizing that she independently funded the jewelry and lifestyle brand. She indicated that the business's success provided her with the confidence to end her marriage.
"I had to give him half the value of [her business] Uncommon James in cash and properties and everything else," Cavallari said, reinforcing comments she made last summer. Despite the significant financial payout, Cavallari expressed gratitude for the outcome, suggesting it was a necessary catalyst for her personal growth and determination.
Jay Cutler has previously contested Cavallari's account. In August of the previous year, speaking on his podcast Take it Outside, Cutler called her claims "completely false." He questioned the logic of such a settlement, referencing his NFL earnings and the typical legal process of divorce settlements in Tennessee, where a judge would likely not approve a scenario where one party received nothing.
Cavallari also revealed on the podcast that she and Cutler no longer maintain a 50-50 custody arrangement for their three children: Camden, 13, Jaxon, 11, and Saylor, 9. She previously told People magazine that she now holds primary custody. Cavallari stated her commitment to being the best mother she can be while also managing her business.
The couple announced their separation in April 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage. Cutler was previously involved in a legal incident in Tennessee, receiving a four-day jail sentence in October 2024 as part of a plea deal for a DUI charge.
