Kristin Cavallari, the 39-year-old founder of Uncommon James, has revealed her practice of having her three children fly in the coach section of airplanes while she occupies a first-class seat. Cavallari, who reportedly has a net worth of $30 million, shared this parenting approach during an appearance on Aspire with Emma Grede.

Cavallari stated that her intention is to instill in her children the understanding that her wealth is earned and not theirs to claim freely. "They are growing up in a very fortunate situation and I want them to know this is my money. This is not your money," she explained. She added that this practice began when her children, Camden (13), Jaxon (12), and Saylor (10), became old enough to manage without her immediate supervision during flights. "And you know, something as small as they fly coach [while] I'm flying in first class. That was important to me when they became old enough."

She recalled that in earlier years, she would sit with her children. "I'd be like, 'Please don't fight. Please don't fight.' Like, who knows what's going to happen back there," Cavallari said. "But now, they'll be fine. Yeah, and it's good for them. And I think it's little things like that as a parent that make ultimately I think a big difference in the long run."

Cavallari also noted that her children learn the value of earning by engaging in their own entrepreneurial activities. "My kids don't just get whatever they want. And if they want something, they have to work for it," she stated. As an example, she mentioned that last summer, both of her sons started small businesses, with one washing windows and the other cleaning garbage cans, to earn money for desired items.

The reality star also mentioned that she receives no financial support from her ex-husband, Jay Cutler, following their 2020 divorce. Cutler, a former NFL quarterback, has custody of their children every other weekend. Cavallari first gained public recognition on MTV's reality shows "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County" and "The Hills."

This parenting strategy echoes a similar situation involving Jessica Simpson, who faced backlash on May 13 after Nick Lachey mentioned on "Watch What Happens Live" that Simpson's children were seated in a different class from her during a March flight. Simpson's children are all under 14 years old.
