Kris Humphries, known for his brief marriage to Kim Kardashian and his career in the NBA, has transitioned to the restaurant industry as a multi-unit franchisee for Dave's Hot Chicken. The former athlete, who retired from professional basketball in 2017, now operates several franchises of the Nashville-style hot chicken chain in Minnesota.
Humphries, 41, launched his first Dave's Hot Chicken location in his home state in 2023. This followed a 2022 agreement to open 10 locations throughout Minnesota. As of September, he had expanded his commitment to opening 30 locations across the Twin Cities area.
"Since I’ve stepped away from the game, I’m trying to stay under the radar and work on a new phase of my life," Humphries told The US Sun. "I’ve been developing some business ventures."
He noted that he chose to open his first franchise near his hometown high school, Hopkins High School, as he believed the area needed a hot chicken establishment. Humphries has been actively involved in his businesses, frequently appearing in his stores and participating in promotional challenges. His social media presence has shifted from basketball and lifestyle content to focus on his entrepreneurial endeavors.
Humphries played 13 seasons in the NBA, beginning with the Utah Jazz in 2004 and concluding with the Atlanta Hawks in 2017. His marriage to Kim Kardashian in 2011 lasted 72 days, a period Kardashian later described as a realization that she should not have married him at that time.
In 2021, Kardashian expressed regret over how she handled their separation, stating she owed Humphries an apology. The reality star has also been married to Damon Thomas and Kanye West, with whom she has four children.
