Kris Humphries, known to many for his brief marriage to Kim Kardashian, has established a new career path as a restaurateur in his home state of Minnesota. Over a decade after his highly publicized 72-day union, Humphries and his family have become franchisees for Dave's Hot Chicken, opening several locations in the state.

The Humphries family secured a franchise agreement for Dave's Hot Chicken in 2022, with plans to eventually open 18 restaurants across Minnesota. The venture has seen the family actively involved in operating the eateries, which feature a distinctive aesthetic with graffiti art and red metal chairs. Humphries has utilized social media platforms, particularly Instagram, to promote the restaurants, sharing videos from food influencers and clips of himself enjoying the food.

Humphries' return to Minnesota was a point of contention during his marriage to Kardashian, as documented on the reality television series Keeping Up With the Kardashians. While Kardashian expressed a strong desire to remain in Los Angeles to pursue her career, Humphries envisioned a return to his home state after his basketball career concluded. Their differing views on location were highlighted in an episode where Kardashian stated, "I'm never moving to Minnesota. Ever." This disagreement contributed to the marital strain that ultimately led to divorce proceedings initiated in October 2011.

This foray into the fast-food industry is not Humphries' first venture into restaurant ownership. The family also owns franchises for Crisp & Green and Five Guys in Minnesota. The divorce from Kardashian was finalized in October 2013, by which time Kardashian had begun a relationship with Kanye West. Despite the short duration of the marriage, rumors circulated that it was a publicity stunt, claims that the family denied. Humphries has previously expressed a desire to distance himself from his reality television persona, stating in 2019, "At the end of the day, I’m just a guy from Minnesota who loves the game of basketball. I never wanted to be that guy."
