Kompany May Miss Arsenal Clash Due to Illness
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is dealing with a virus that has caused leg pain and could keep him from managing against Arsenal in the Champions League.
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany may be absent from Wednesday's Champions League game against Arsenal after a virus has left him experiencing pain when he walks. Kompany missed training on Tuesday due to the illness, casting doubt on his availability for the upcoming match against the Premier League side at the Allianz Arena.
Kompany's assistant coach, Aaron Danks, confirmed the severity of the situation, stating that the virus has affected Kompany's legs. "The most important thing for him now is to rest," Danks said. "It's a virus and it's really important that he rests."
While Kompany is currently at home, Danks emphasized that he remains in constant communication with the head coach and that Kompany will be involved in the game, though his physical presence at the stadium is uncertain.
Arsenal is preparing to face a Bayern team that has a strong home record, having lost only once at the Allianz Arena since April 2025. The German club has also seen limited defeats overall since their Champions League semi-final exit last year.
Former Arsenal player Serge Gnabry, who is expected to feature in the match, commented on his past relationship with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. Gnabry described Arteta as a "great leader" who was supportive during his younger years at Arsenal and expressed that playing against his former club will be a different experience compared to a Bundesliga game, noting the increased intensity and physicality of Premier League teams.
