Knicks Sign Wiseman, Brown, Agbaji in Fight for Final Roster Spot

The New York Knicks have signed James Wiseman, Bruce Brown, and Ochai Agbaji to non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 contracts, adding competition for the team's final roster spot. This move follows the recent signings of John Konchar and Drew Eubanks.

The Knicks currently hold 13 standard NBA contracts, one shy of the league-mandated 14. The newly signed players will contend for this remaining position, with the understanding that the successful candidate will convert to a standard contract before the season begins.

Wiseman, the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, has yet to fully meet expectations during his tenures with the Warriors, Detroit Pistons, and Indiana Pacers. Brown, a former member of the Denver Nuggets, and Agbaji, previously with the Utah Jazz, bring additional veteran experience to the competition.

This strategy mirrors the Knicks' approach from the previous year, when players like Landry Shamet, Malcom Brogdon, and Garrison Matthews vied for the last roster spot. Shamet ultimately secured the position and became a significant contributor during the team's championship run.

Teams are permitted up to 15 roster spots, but the Knicks' financial flexibility, particularly under the second apron, limits them to one more deal unless further transactions are made. The competition for this final spot is expected to intensify as training camp commences on September 28.
