Knicks Finalize Training Camp Roster with Nickel and McCullar Jr.

The New York Knicks have officially signed Tyler Nickel and Kevin McCullar Jr. to two-way contracts, bringing their training camp roster to 20 players.

Nickel, a second-round pick in the recent draft, and McCullar Jr., a 2024 second-round selection, were both signed on Sunday, according to team announcements. These additions fill the Knicks' roster to one shy of the maximum allowed for training camp.

Nickel, 23, was selected 47th overall in June. He showcased his skills as a 6-foot-7 three-point specialist during the Summer League in Las Vegas, where he shot 41.3 percent from beyond the arc over five games. His performance suggests a potential impact, following a trend of recent Knicks second-round picks like Miles McBride, Tyler Kolek, and Mohamed Diawara who are now on standard contracts.

McCullar Jr., 25, is a guard who has spent the last two seasons with the Knicks. He has appeared in a combined 25 games, averaging 2.2 points and 7.4 minutes per game with a 40.7 percent field goal percentage. While he had a notable performance in late December last season, contributing 13 points and eight rebounds in a win against Atlanta, he did not secure a standard contract and will enter his third season on a two-way deal.

Two-way contracts allow players to split time between the NBA team and its G League affiliate. With the signings of Nickel and McCullar Jr., the Knicks have utilized two of their three available two-way contract slots.

The Knicks are scheduled to host Media Day on Monday, with training camp commencing in Tarrytown on Tuesday. Their preseason schedule begins with an away game against Philadelphia on October 5th.
