Knicks Coach Mike Brown Frustrated by Turnovers, Cites Baseball Analogy

New York Knicks coach Mike Brown expressed his frustration with his team's persistent turnover problem, comparing their offensive approach to trying to hit a home run every time they possess the ball.

The Knicks committed 13 turnovers in their 98-93 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night, which the 76ers converted into 23 points.

"It’s been going on all year," Brown said. "We’re trying to hit a home run every time we get the ball. And we have to hit singles. We can’t hit a home run. We gotta hit singles offensively and then if our play breaks down, we have to move."

Brown elaborated on the issue, stating that too many players are attempting isolation plays, leaving their teammates standing and watching, which results in poor shot selection.

This lack of crisp ball movement contrasts with the team's championship-caliber play last season. This season, the Knicks have struggled to maintain consistent offensive flow, often forcing passes into contested areas.

Guard Jalen Brunson acknowledged the problem, describing the turnovers as "a little careless" and sometimes stemming from hesitancy or delayed decision-making. "It could be a lot of things, but obviously we got to clean it up," he added.

Forward Josh Hart echoed these sentiments, noting that some turnovers result from attempting difficult passes, while others stem from a lack of conscious, deliberate play. "We just have to be more conscious of passes, what we’re doing, trying to be more deliberate," Hart said.

Forward Karl-Anthony Towns was seen wearing a brace on his left hand after the game. He sustained the injury after falling during the Knicks' victory over the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday. When asked about the injury, Towns deflected, stating, "I think the Knicks gotta deal with the teams bringing their best shot every day. That’s what I think. That’s something to deal with in the future."
