Klopp Praises Wirtz After First Germany Win

Jurgen Klopp has praised Florian Wirtz following the midfielder's goal in Germany's 2-0 victory over Serbia, which marked Klopp's first win in charge of the national team.

Wirtz was instrumental in the win, first assisting Tom Bischof's opening goal and then scoring himself to secure the result. This strike was Wirtz's first of the season for both club and country.

Following the match, Klopp expressed his satisfaction with Wirtz's performance, stating, "The way we want to play suits Flo Wirtz." He added, "I think everyone in Liverpool is very happy today. The boy is brimming with joy in his play and has worked incredibly hard."

The praise comes after a challenging start to the club season for Wirtz at Liverpool, where criticism had mounted following a series of less impactful displays. One pundit described his performance against Bournemouth prior to the international break as "one of the poorest I've ever seen him in a Liverpool shirt."

However, Klopp publicly defended Wirtz before the Germany match, aiming to bolster the player's confidence. "When you look at the full context, you will find that Florian joined Liverpool at an absolutely unfavourable time related to the death of Diogo Jota," Klopp said. "He joined a team whose players' priority at that time was not football, which is very understandable. He learned a lot from his first year. Now there is a new season under the leadership of a new coach."

Klopp continued, "He is delivering a very good level physically, and the team has begun to regain its cohesion once again. Attacking players always need a team that works well around them. And anyone who loves football can still see how outstanding Florian Wirtz is as a player."

Germany's next match is on Sunday against Greece, seeking to avenge a previous 1-0 defeat. The Premier League resumes the following week with Liverpool hosting Manchester City at Anfield on October 11.
