Kittens Rescued From Industrial Shredder on Long Island
Maintenance workers heard cries from machinery and discovered three newborn kittens trapped inside.
Three newborn kittens were rescued from an industrial shredder on Long Island after maintenance workers heard their cries, according to a report by the New York Post.
The workers were alerted by "screams" coming from the machinery on Thursday. Upon investigating, they discovered three black kittens trapped inside the shredder, which could have "obliterated" them if it had been turned on.
One of the workers carefully dismantled the machinery to free the kittens. Video footage shared by John Debacker, a local animal rescuer known as the "Long Island catman," shows the kittens purring within the machine before being safely removed.
Debacker, 33, was called to the Oyster Bay maintenance yard and arrived to assist with the rescue. He stated on Facebook that the kittens were in peril but were saved by the "quick thinking" of the maintenance crew.
The rescued kittens are currently being cared for by a bottle feeder and are expected to be put up for adoption once they are old enough. Debacker confirmed that the kittens are doing well.
