Kitten Survives 800-Mile Journey Trapped in Car Bumper

A kitten, now nicknamed 'Jersey,' has been rescued in Georgia after an improbable journey of nearly 800 miles trapped inside the bumper of a car. The small feline managed to find its way into the vehicle's bumper in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, before the car's owner, college student Jadyn Sawyer, departed for the University of Georgia on August 10.

Sawyer was unaware of her unexpected passenger until she arrived at her destination in Athens, Georgia, and noticed the kitten's paw protruding from the car's bumper. She promptly contacted university police, who then reached out to Cat Zip Alliance-Campus Cats, a local kitten rescue organization.

Kelly Bettinger, the founder of the rescue group, stated that her organization typically receives calls a few times a year for kittens found stuck in vehicles. However, Jersey's rescue presented a more complex challenge, requiring a team of mechanics to dismantle parts of the car's undercarriage to free the kitten.

The 10-week-old kitten, who was named Jersey by the rescuers, was examined by veterinarians. Miraculously, Jersey was found to be in good health, suffering only from a cold after his extensive travels.

Following his rescue and recovery, Jersey has found a new home in Athens. He has been adopted by Micki Wisenbaker, who renamed him Jack. Wisenbaker reported that Jack has bonded with another kitten she recently rescued, named Maggie, and the two are now best friends.
