Actor Kit Harington has stepped in to provide financial support for his wife Rose Leslie's ancestral home, Wardhill Castle in Aberdeenshire, which has encountered financial difficulties leading to liquidation proceedings.
Harington's intervention includes a loan intended to help the company managing the estate settle its debts and seek a pause in the liquidation process. This financial backing could offer the family crucial time to preserve the estate, which has been in the Leslie family for over 500 years.
Wardhill Castle, an 801-acre property, currently operates as a wedding and luxury holiday venue. It was the site of Harington and Leslie's wedding in June 2018, attended by several "Game of Thrones" co-stars. Rose Leslie's sister-in-law, Sarah, previously commented on the significant cost of maintaining the property.
This situation adds a layer of real-life drama for the Leslie family, who have a history with large estates. In 2018, Rose's father, Sebastian Leslie, lost possession of another family castle, Lickleyhead, also in Aberdeenshire, due to missed mortgage payments. Lickleyhead is reportedly back on the market for over £1.15 million.
