Kirk Herbstreit Lands New Amazon 'TNF' Deal Amidst ESPN Uncertainty

Kirk Herbstreit has agreed to a new contract with Amazon Prime Video to continue as the analyst for "Thursday Night Football." However, the deal reportedly includes flexibility for Amazon, allowing the network to potentially pursue other candidates if they become available.

One of the potential targets mentioned is Rams coach Sean McVay. Amazon had previously attempted to recruit McVay for the broadcasting role before signing Herbstreit in 2022, reportedly offering him around $20 million per year. McVay ultimately re-signed with the Los Angeles Rams.

Other individuals who could be considered by Amazon, should they become available, include Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and 49ers general manager John Lynch. Amazon had also expressed interest in Lynch in 2022.

Herbstreit's new agreement is said to cover multiple seasons and will pay him in the high eight figures annually. This new deal is reportedly shorter than his current contract, which is set to expire at the end of the current season. His contract with ESPN for college football coverage is also nearing its conclusion.

ESPN has stated that they will not comment on Herbstreit's contract situation until after the college football season concludes.

Herbstreit has been a prominent figure at ESPN for over three decades, known for his role on "College GameDay" and as a lead announcer for major college football games alongside Chris Fowler. His long tenure with ESPN has seen him become one of the most recognizable voices in college football broadcasting. His dog, Peter, has also gained a public profile, often accompanying Herbstreit on his travel between "College GameDay" sites and game locations. His previous dog, Ben, passed away in 2024.
