Kirk Herbstreit Criticizes Arch Manning's 'Boneheaded' Interception
The ESPN analyst questioned a crucial fourth-quarter throw by the Texas quarterback against Ole Miss.
Kirk Herbstreit did not hold back his criticism of Arch Manning following a critical interception in the fourth quarter of No. 19 Texas' matchup against No. 7 Ole Miss.
With the game tied 24-24, Manning, under pressure, launched a deep pass into triple coverage. Ole Miss safety Jalyn Crawford intercepted the ball, a decision Herbstreit called "baffling."
"This one just didn’t make a lot of sense. Just a poor decision there by Arch Manning, putting it up and almost just hoping," Herbstreit stated.
The interception was reminiscent of a similar costly mistake Manning made against Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout, where his late-game interception helped the Sooners secure a game-winning field goal.
This latest turnover was Texas' third of the game and Manning's second interception, adding to an earlier fumble. He has now thrown five interceptions in the Longhorns' last four games.
Manning, who entered the season as a Heisman favorite and a projected top NFL draft pick, has seen his performance fall short of expectations. This season, he has accumulated 1,507 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
Despite the criticism, Manning showed resilience as Texas secured a 34-27 victory over Ole Miss. He finished the game with 212 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and two rushing touchdowns, ending the Longhorns' two-game losing streak.
