Kirk Cousins cracks joke after passing John Elway on all-time touchdown list

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins had a lighthearted reaction after surpassing Pro Football Hall of Famer John Elway on the all-time career touchdown passes list during the team's Week 1 victory against the Miami Dolphins.

Cousins, who threw three touchdown passes in the 27-13 win, was informed of his achievement on the field after the game. "Hell of an accomplishment," one person told Cousins after his record-breaking touchdown pass to Ashton Jeanty. "Yeah, thank you, yeah. I just passed John Elway, I think," Cousins responded. Upon confirmation, he added with a smile, "It’s a decent name. He had a decent career."

The veteran quarterback became the 15th player in NFL history to throw at least 300 career touchdown passes. In Sunday's game, Cousins completed 21 of 30 passes for 160 yards but also threw two interceptions.

Despite the win and the milestone, discussions continue regarding the potential for rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza to take over the starting role. Reports indicate that while Cousins provided veteran leadership and threw for touchdowns, he struggled with passes exceeding 10 yards downfield, completing only one of seven attempts for 21 yards in those situations. This limited deep-passing performance could pose a challenge for the Raiders' success in future games.
