King Frederik X of Denmark was observed in the Royal Box at Wimbledon, accompanied by his long-time friend and surgeon, Christian von Buchwald. The tennis enthusiast monarch took his seat to watch Novak Djokovic during the tournament on July 5, 2026.

Also present in the front row of Centre Court were British former tennis player and sports executive Deborah Jevans, and British former field hockey player and academic Dr. Mark Precious. On their left sat English cricket administrator and former player Sir Andrew John Strauss and his son, Samuel Strauss.

Mr. Buchwald and his wife, Elisabeth, are considered part of King Frederik and Queen Mary's inner circle. Christian von Buchwald served as one of Princess Isabella's six godparents at her baptism in 2007. The friendship between King Frederik, 58, and Mr. Buchwald dates back to when Buchwald was Frederik's tennis coach after the then 15-year-old returned from boarding school in France. Their shared passion for tennis fostered a close bond.

Mr. Buchwald, a former elite player, is now a senior physician and professor of ear, nose, and throat surgery at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen's largest public hospital. Elisabeth Buchwald holds a position as inspector of court inventory within the royal household.

King Frederik is a frequent attendee at Wimbledon. In the previous year, he was seen at No. 1 Court watching a match between Nicolas Jarry and Cameron Norrie. The following day, he joined Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, in the Royal Box. Although he did not attend in 2024, he was present in 2023, witnessing matches including Beatriz Haddad Maia versus Elena Rybakina and Holger Rune's victory over Grigor Dimitrov.

King Frederik and Queen Mary have maintained a friendship with Prince William and Princess Catherine for over a decade.
