King Charles to Visit Caribbean for Royal Tour Amid Cancer Treatment
The King's nine-day tour will include stops in the Bahamas, Guyana, and Antigua and Barbuda, where he will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
King Charles III is embarking on a nine-day royal tour of the Caribbean, beginning Tuesday. The itinerary includes visits to the Bahamas, Guyana, and Antigua and Barbuda, culminating in his attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.
This tour marks the King's first international trip since announcing his cancer diagnosis. He will travel alone for the initial portion of the journey, with Queen Camilla and the Prime Minister joining him for the final leg.
During previous royal tours of the region, members of the Royal Family have stayed at a number of notable hotels. The King's upcoming visit is expected to follow a similar pattern, with stays at luxurious and historically significant properties.
The Bahamas
The Cove at Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas served as a favored accommodation for Prince William and Kate Middleton during their Caribbean tour in March 2022. The resort offers amenities such as butler service, private cabanas, and multiple dining options.
Another Bahamian option is the British Colonial Nassau, one of the oldest hotels in the Bahamas, dating back to 1901. This beachfront property features spacious suites, two outdoor pools, and a fitness center. It also has a history of use as a military intelligence hub during World War II and was featured in the 1983 James Bond film "Never Say Never Again."
Sandals Bahamas Nassau, formerly the Balmoral Club, was a private retreat for King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson. The all-inclusive resort now boasts two pools, a new lounge area, 12 dining venues, and an award-winning spa, with options for swim-up suites and access to white-sand beaches.
Guyana
In Guyana, the Cara Lodge Hotel, a historic wooden building dating back to 1840, hosted King Charles in April 2000 when he was a prince. The hotel, described as blending "timeless elegance with modern-day comfort," is located in the capital, Georgetown.
The Pegasus Hotel Guyana is another option that has hosted heads of state and British royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II. Its Aura Sky Lounge offers panoramic views of Georgetown and the ocean. However, some reviews suggest the hotel may not be in its former prime, with ratings of 3.4 stars on Tripadvisor and 3.8 on Google.
Antigua and Barbuda
For the final leg of the tour in Antigua and Barbuda, the Blue Waters Resort & Spa is a luxury option. Prince Harry reportedly stayed at this resort during a previous Caribbean tour. The property features 85 rooms and suites, palm trees, pools, and three secluded beach coves, emphasizing luxury and relaxation with four bars and a spa.
The Carlisle Bay Resort is another five-star property that Queen Camilla has visited. Following extensive renovations, the resort offers revamped suites, beachfront dining, and a variety of activities including watersports, health retreats, and private yoga sessions.
