King Charles III Reportedly Seeking to Mend William and Harry's Rift

King Charles III is reportedly planning to facilitate a reconciliation between his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, who have been estranged for several years. According to reports, the monarch is considering a Thanksgiving service to honor their late mother, Princess Diana, on the 30th anniversary of her death next August.

Sources suggest that Charles, 77, has expressed no objection to such a service, which could mirror a similar event held in 2007. At that time, Princess Diana's favorite music was played, and Prince Harry delivered the eulogy. This potential gathering is seen as an "inspirational way to remember Diana" and an opportunity to "bring the brothers together."

One insider told the Daily Mail that William could participate by giving a reading, a move described as more "dignified" than his potential involvement in documentaries about his mother. The service is being seriously considered as a means to potentially mend the fractured relationship between the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex.

Despite reports of a potential reconciliation, royal journalist Tom Sykes expressed skepticism, stating that a reunion between William and Harry is "just not gonna happen." The brothers have maintained an estrangement even after Harry relocated to the United Kingdom with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children.

Royal expert Kinsey Schofield previously commented that William has largely distanced himself from Harry, focusing on his own family and duties as Prince of Wales. She noted that the Sussexes' presence often generates "noise and distraction."

William and Harry were last together at the funeral of their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes in Snettisham, Norfolk, in 2024, but they reportedly did not speak. Prior to that, they appeared together in 2021 to unveil a statue of Princess Diana at Kensington Palace to commemorate what would have been her 60th birthday.

Prince Harry has previously expressed a desire for reconciliation with his family, telling the BBC in May 2025 that he wished for it, stating, "There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious." He also mentioned concerns about his father's health, given King Charles III's public cancer diagnosis in early 2024. Harry has since met with his father on several occasions.

Reps for Prince Harry, Prince William, and King Charles III did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
