King Charles is set to offer Prince Harry a room at Buckingham Palace during his return to Britain in the coming weeks, according to reports.
This follows a previous instance where the Duke of Sussex was unable to stay at the palace earlier in July after his team reportedly took too long to accept an offer of royal accommodation. Sources indicated that the necessary staffing and hospitality arrangements could no longer be made, rendering a stay logistically impossible.
Conflicting information emerged at the time, with Harry's team briefing media outlets that he would be staying at the palace, citing direct discussions with the King. However, these claims were publicly challenged hours before his arrival. Palace sources suggested that the Duke had not responded to the offer in a timely manner, despite having several weeks to consider it.
Following the previous situation, Harry's spokesman expressed disappointment and accused Buckingham Palace of withdrawing the offer at the last moment, adding turmoil to the Duke's upcoming visit. The Royal Household requires a minimum notice period to prepare a royal residence for a stay.
Prince Harry is expected to visit Britain in September for events associated with the annual WellChild Awards. It remains unclear if his wife Meghan or their children, Archie and Lilibet, will accompany him on this visit. The Duke recently concluded a five-day trip to the UK for engagements in London and Birmingham.
Prince Harry has previously expressed that he does not receive round-the-clock police protection during his visits to the UK, with security arrangements being assessed on a case-by-case basis after giving three weeks' notice.
