King Charles has broken his silence on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the United Kingdom, confirming the couple will not resume working royal duties. A letter sent on behalf of the King stated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now considered private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.

According to the BBC, the letter from the Lord Chamberlain clarified that Harry and Markle cannot use their HRH titles. "It is well known that in January 2020 the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of the Sovereign, and are no longer working Members of the Royal Family," the letter reportedly read.

Palace sources indicated that the letter was distributed to Harry's team, as well as government officials, the military, and Lord Lieutenants. The Sussexes reportedly relocated to England last month with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for an extended stay, six years after they initially stepped back from royal duties. The family is said to have flown privately from California.

Reports suggest the move was motivated by a desire to be closer to King Charles, who is currently battling cancer, and to foster stronger family relationships for their children. The King was reportedly informed of his son and daughter-in-law's decision to return to the UK just days before the news became public.
