Kimberly Guilfoyle Out as Trump’s Greece Ambassador Amid Corruption Allegations
Guilfoyle resigned after a report detailed her efforts to solicit $100,000 from a donor in exchange for access.
Kimberly Guilfoyle has resigned as Donald Trump’s ambassador to Greece following allegations of soliciting donations in exchange for political access. The resignation came on Tuesday after she was reportedly asked to step down.
The departure follows a report by The Wall Street Journal that detailed Guilfoyle's attempts to solicit money from a Trump donor, including $100,000 to cover a credit card bill. In exchange, she allegedly offered access to Trump administration officials and conservative media figures.
According to text messages cited in the report, Guilfoyle expressed concern about the repercussions of these solicitations, writing to the donor, “What a nightmare you’ll literally cost me my ambassadorship stop writing.”
Guilfoyle, a former Fox News personality, is also known for her past relationship with Donald Trump Jr., the former president’s eldest son, and was previously married to California Governor Gavin Newsom.
While corruption allegations are not uncommon in Trump-aligned circles, Guilfoyle's situation may have been exacerbated by two factors. The report suggests her alleged corrupt actions primarily benefited herself rather than the Trump family, and the nature of the allegations was considered unsubtle even by the standards of the former administration.
Trump himself commented on Guilfoyle's status, telling reporters that she "wasn’t a member of my family" and had "dated my son a long time ago," indicating a potential cooling of relations. The relationship between Guilfoyle and Donald Trump Jr. is believed to have ended in 2024.
