Kim Kardashian 'So Mad' Over Paris Hilton's Refusal to Be Interviewed for Biography
Author Jonathan Van Meter reveals Hilton cancelled multiple interviews for 'Citizen Kim,' sparking 'ancient irritation' between the former friends.
Kim Kardashian expressed significant anger when her on-off friend Paris Hilton repeatedly refused to be interviewed for Kardashian's new biography, according to author Jonathan Van Meter.
Van Meter spent five years writing "Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future," which is set for publication on October 27. He planned to speak with Hilton, who has known Kardashian since childhood and was her former employer, as part of his research. However, Hilton reportedly cancelled their scheduled interview numerous times over a four-month period.
"Kim was so mad when I told her," Van Meter told The Hollywood Reporter. "It seemed to stir up some ancient irritation between them. The creation turning on the creator."
Van Meter detailed that Hilton's assistant was contacted, and the interview was cancelled 17 times. He eventually concluded that the persistent cancellations were more revealing than any potential interview content. "Eventually I thought the cancellations were more interesting than whatever she’d tell me," he stated.
Kardashian's relationship with Hilton began in the early 2000s when Kardashian worked as Hilton's assistant and stylist. She even made guest appearances on Hilton's reality show "The Simple Life." The pair's friendship reportedly fractured as the Kardashian-Jenner family's reality show, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," gained prominence.
During a 2021 reunion special for "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," Kardashian addressed the past rift, explaining that she and Hilton stopped talking when their careers began to diverge. "When everything started to blow up, it was just a little bit like, what's happening? Then we just stopped talking," she said.
Kardashian also acknowledged a past public feud where Hilton made a negative comment about her appearance. "She did that interview about something that was negative to me, called my butt fat, but we spoke afterwards and had a real mature conversation about that," Kardashian recalled.
Despite the past difficulties, Kardashian stated that she and Hilton have since mended their friendship and now have a good relationship, with Kardashian expressing respect for Hilton's role in her early career. "I will never think I'm too good [to know] where I came from and understand she was a big part of my career," Kardashian said. "She opened up my mind to a whole other world. We have a really good relationship now."
In the biography, Kardashian also discusses the influence of her ex-husband, Kanye West, crediting him with changing her life by embracing projects that were not considered "cool" and making them so. "I think he really fell in love with the idea of me, and the project behind it all," she explained to Van Meter. "He loves things that maybe aren't cool and 'I'm going to make them cool.'... He changed my life. He absolutely changed my life."
