Kim Kardashian Says Kris Jenner Warned Her Against New Biography

Kim Kardashian has spoken about her collaboration on a new biography, "Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future," which details her rise to fame, significant life events, and cultural influence. The book, written by journalist Jonathan Van Meter, includes interviews with Kardashian and is set to be released soon.

Kardashian revealed on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" that she had been working on the biography for five years. However, her mother, Kris Jenner, reportedly disapproved of the project, primarily because Kardashian was not financially compensated for her involvement. Jenner expressed concern that Kardashian was contributing to "someone else's project" without direct financial gain.

Despite her mother's reservations, Kardashian expressed trust in the author, stating, "It's a little scary because it's not my book. So, it's not like I have a say. I mean I could contribute and tell him and I want it to be accurate." She added that her mother experienced a similar reaction upon learning about the lack of payment.

Kardashian explained that Jenner's concerns stemmed from her extensive interviews for the book, which will also be featured on "The Kardashians" on Hulu. "After she had done it and then she kind of like looked up and was like, 'Wait, did you get paid for this and then when she realized I didn't and it's someone else's project?'" Kardashian recounted. She acknowledged it might have been a "bad decision" but emphasized her five-year collaboration with Van Meter, who was welcomed into her home for interviews.

Kardashian also shared that reading an early copy of the book moved her to tears. "I read a copy and like I cried after a chapter because I thought it was told so well in a way that I've never seen myself or ever noticed that about my life," she said. She expressed hope that her mother would come to appreciate the book once she reads it.

During her appearance, Kardashian also touched upon her legal aspirations and a childhood anecdote involving O.J. Simpson. At 14, she admitted to searching through Simpson's luggage while he was staying at her sister Khloe's home. Kardashian recalled seeing extensive news coverage of the Simpson trial on television and then witnessing aspects of the legal proceedings firsthand at her own house. Her investigation into Simpson's belongings led to panic when she saw a news report about investigators planning to seize his bags, fearing her fingerprints might be on them. This experience, she stated, later inspired her to pursue a career in law, aiming to help those potentially implicated unjustly.

The biography "Citizen Kim" is scheduled to be serialized in the Daily Mail starting tomorrow. Kardashian recently returned to the U.S. for the late-night show taping after attending the Singapore Grand Prix with Lewis Hamilton.
