Kim Kardashian has shared that she intentionally remained single for five years following her divorce from Kanye West and a subsequent brief relationship, prioritizing personal healing and focusing on her children and projects.
In an interview with the U.K.'s Sunday Times, Kardashian, 45, stated that this period of singledom felt "great" and that she "didn't feel empty." She explained, "I felt like I needed my time. I wanted to completely heal and just work on myself. I wasn’t ready to open up. I really wasn’t even thinking about it."
Kardashian, who is now reportedly dating British racing driver Lewis Hamilton, 41, added that she felt "no rush" to re-enter the dating world. The couple were friends for years before their relationship became public, making their romance Instagram-official in June.
Kardashian and West, who now goes by Ye, share four children. She filed for divorce in February 2021, and their divorce was finalized in November 2022. Their split was followed by a relationship with Pete Davidson, which lasted from October 2021 to August 2022.
Davidson recently spoke to Variety about his past relationship with Kardashian, noting that the public scrutiny and harassment he faced from Ye during their time together eventually "cleared the path" for Kardashian to date again after their breakup. Ye had repeatedly targeted Davidson online and through music with derogatory remarks and violent imagery.
Davidson acknowledged the intense atmosphere surrounding relationships with the Kardashian family, comparing those who have navigated it to Marines. However, he stated that he understood what he was "getting into" when he began dating Kardashian, whom he described as "super respectful."
