Kim Kardashian on Five Years Single: 'Needed to Completely Heal'

Kim Kardashian has shared that she intentionally remained single for five years to focus on personal healing and her children before entering a new romantic relationship. The 45-year-old reality television personality is currently dating Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, 41. The couple made their first public appearance at the Super Bowl in February and became Instagram official in June.

Before her relationship with Hamilton, Kardashian's last public romance was with comedian Pete Davidson, whom she dated for nine months starting in 2021, following her divorce filing from Kanye West.

Reflecting on her five-year period of solitude, Kardashian told The Times that it was a crucial time for self-development. "I was really single for five years. And that felt great. I could focus on my kids and projects that I really wanted to be involved with. I really felt no rush," she stated. "Like, I really didn’t feel empty. I felt like I needed my time. I wanted to completely heal and just work on myself. I wasn’t ready to open up."

Kardashian added that she did not feel pressure to date, saying, "I really wasn’t even thinking about it. The universe works in your favour when you just allow it to."

Davidson, reflecting on his past relationship with Kardashian, described the intense public scrutiny as a "tough atmosphere." He told Variety that while Kardashian and her family were accustomed to the spotlight, it was challenging for him, particularly with his own mental health and past struggles with substance abuse. "[Kim] was super respectful of all of it, but the craze of that lifestyle – being followed everywhere, having security and looking over your shoulder – for a guy with mental stuff, and at the time drug problems, was a little too much for me."

Kardashian and Hamilton were first romantically linked earlier this year, with their first public outing involving visible affection occurring at the Monaco Grand Prix in June. The couple has since traveled together to Japan and England, and made an appearance at the 2026 Super Bowl.

Kardashian, who shares four children with ex-husband Kanye West, is reportedly taking her relationship with Hamilton seriously. A source told PEOPLE that Hamilton is "just an easy-going guy with great energy. Her family likes him and Kim's very into him." The insider added that while both have demanding careers, they prioritize seeing each other, noting that "it takes a lot to capture Kim's interest and she's definitely intrigued."
