Kim Kardashian on Co-Parenting With Kanye West: "I'll Always Worry"
The reality star discusses the 'burden' of raising children with her ex-husband in a new biography.
Kim Kardashian has spoken about the challenges of co-parenting with her ex-husband, Kanye West, admitting that she will "always worry" about him as the father of her children. These insights are detailed in the new book "Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created The Future," which was released on October 27.
In the authorized biography, journalist Jonathan Van Meter interviewed Kardashian and those close to her from 2018 to 2026. Kardashian, 46, reflected on her past marriage to West, from which they share four children: North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, eight, and Psalm, seven. Their divorce was finalized in 2022.
"Oh, I worry about [Kanye] all day," Kardashian stated, according to Us Weekly. "All the time. That's the father of my kids, I'll never not worry about him." She described this situation as a "big burden of having kids with someone who you don't necessarily get along with," but emphasized that her children remain shielded from any conflict.
Kardashian shared that while she tries to set boundaries and move past negative experiences, she and West have managed to co-parent with "not too much conflict." She noted that their interactions have been "pretty smooth for a while," attributing this in part to limited communication, though they offer each other hugs when they meet.
She also maintains a close relationship with West's family and encourages her children's relationship with their father. "Anytime you're in town, come for dinner with us, see the kids as much as you want, take them out, come over and hang out. That's their family. So I encourage the relationship with their dad so much," she said.
Kardashian admitted that West "always seems to pick himself up," but that it also makes her "so sad," praying that things will improve for the sake of their children. Communication with West often occurs through his wife, Bianca Censori, and his manager.
Despite past public disagreements, Kardashian expressed a desire to protect her children's perception of their father. She stated that she invites West to her home frequently and recounted inviting him and Censori to spend Christmas Eve with the family the previous year, an arrangement she plans to repeat. "I will sweep everything under the rug, all the horrible things he has said about me, so that the kids can see their father," she said.
West has previously spoken about his bipolar disorder diagnosis and apologized for antisemitic comments. Bianca Censori has described him as an "awesome dad" in interviews.
Kardashian also addressed her children's involvement in their reality show, "The Kardashians." She stated that while her younger children appear occasionally, they do not have significant storylines. North, however, shows more interest, but Kardashian tries to manage her exposure to forward-facing projects, particularly those related to music, where she and West have better communication and ensure they both approve of her projects.
West and Kardashian were married in 2014, and she filed for divorce in February 2021. She was declared legally single in March 2022, with the divorce finalized later that year. West has since married Bianca Censori, and Kardashian has been linked to F1 racer Lewis Hamilton.
