Kim Kardashian Feared She 'Ruined' Ryan Murphy Show 'All's Fair,' Cites Scathing Reviews
The reality star admitted to blaming herself for the initial negative reception of her first scripted series but found solace in her co-stars' support.
Kim Kardashian expressed concerns that she had "ruined" the Ryan Murphy-produced show "All's Fair" upon its debut a year ago, marking her first leading role in a scripted series. The 45-year-old reality star confessed in a recent interview that she blamed herself for the overwhelmingly negative reviews the legal drama and dark comedy received.
"All's Fair," which stars Kardashian as divorce lawyer Allura Grant, initially garnered scathing criticism, with a reported zero percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 19 out of 100 on Metacritic. Despite being accustomed to public scrutiny, Kardashian revealed her anxiety stemmed from how her esteemed castmates might feel about the critical reception.
The series boasts a notable ensemble cast, including Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts, Sarah Paulson, Glenn Close, and Teyana Taylor. "I mean, at the beginning, to the girls, my cast, I was like, 'Wait, are we OK? Did I ruin everything?' And they were like, 'Listen, we are OK,'" Kardashian recalled. She added that she hadn't fully realized the extent of criticism within the film industry.
Despite the initial reviews, the cast reported having a positive experience. "We've just finished season two. We thought we were a bit more serious last year, but the audiences thought we were really comical, so we've leant into that," Kardashian stated. The second season of "All's Fair" is set to premiere on November 5 on Hulu, having already achieved strong viewership figures.
Kardashian is actively pursuing a more serious acting career. In March, she completed filming for the upcoming Netflix comedy "The Fifth Wheel," directed by Eva Longoria, with an expected release later this year or in early 2027. "I don't sing, I don't dance, I don't act, but I am not lazy. I love stepping out of my comfort zone. I want to grow, learn and expand. It keeps me motivated, keeps me inspired," she told The Times.
Kardashian's comments follow her ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson's recent remarks about dating her. Davidson described the experience as "a little too much" due to the intense public attention and constant security. He explained to Variety that while he found Kardashian and her family mature in their handling of fame, the demanding lifestyle was challenging for him, particularly given his past struggles with mental health and substance abuse. "But we're cool, and I have a lot of love for her, and I knew what I was getting into," Davidson added.
