Kim Kardashian Discusses Co-Parenting Challenges with Kanye West
The reality star opened up about the 'burden' of co-parenting with her ex-husband and her ongoing concerns for him.
Kim Kardashian, 46, recently shared candid insights into the complexities of co-parenting with ex-husband Kanye West, describing it as a "burden" and admitting she will "always worry" about him.
Kardashian's remarks came as she attended the second season premiere of the Hulu legal drama "All's Fair" in Mexico. The show, in which she plays Allura Grant, focuses on lawyers at a Los Angeles firm specializing in securing large settlements for female clients. The second season is set to explore "scandals" and "secrets" as new alliances form and friendships are tested.
In an interview discussing her co-parenting relationship with West, Kardashian stated, "Oh, I worry about [Kanye] all day. All the time. That's the father of my kids, I'll never not worry about him." She elaborated on the difficulty of navigating a relationship with a former partner, particularly when children are involved, noting, "And that's a big burden of having kids with someone who you don't necessarily get along with. My kids would never know that."
Despite the challenges, Kardashian indicated that their co-parenting has been largely smooth, attributing this to limited direct communication. "It's been pretty smooth for a while," she said. "I guess because we don't talk that much. But when we see each other, we give each other a hug." She also emphasized maintaining a supportive environment for their four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. "Anytime you're in town, come for dinner with us, see the kids as much as you want, take them out, come over and hang out. That's their family. So I encourage the relationship with their dad so much."
Kardashian also revealed that communication with West often occurs through his wife, Bianca Censori, and his manager. She expressed a desire to protect her children's perception of their father, stating, "I want them to think their dad is the greatest." She mentioned that she invites West to her home frequently and plans to facilitate family gatherings, even for holidays, to ensure the children can spend time with their father, willing to set aside past conflicts. "Last Christmas, I said, 'Sleep over on Christmas Eve. Bring your girlfriend.' I'm easy! 'Let's all do Christmas together.'" she recalled.
Kardashian's comments come after a period of public scrutiny regarding West's behavior and statements. He publicly addressed his bipolar disorder diagnosis and apologized for antisemitic comments earlier in the year. Bianca Censori also described West as an "awesome dad" in a February interview.
Regarding the children's involvement in the family's reality show, "The Kardashians," Kardashian expressed caution. "I do worry about it," she said. "Each kid does what they're comfortable with." While younger children appear occasionally, older daughter North shows more interest, particularly in music-related projects. Kardashian stated that she and West align on decisions regarding North's forward-facing projects, especially those related to music, to ensure they both approve.
Kardashian and West were married from 2014 until their divorce was finalized in 2022. She has since moved on romantically, dating Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, while West married Bianca Censori.
