Kim Kardashian Calls Co-Parenting With Kanye West a 'Big Burden'
The reality star discusses the challenges of raising children with her ex-husband in a new biography.
Kim Kardashian has described co-parenting her four children with ex-husband Kanye West as a "big burden," while expressing that she will "always worry" about the rapper.
These reflections are detailed in the authorized biography "Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future," by journalist Jonathan Van Meter, which draws on interviews conducted between 2018 and 2026. "That’s the father of my kids, I’ll never not worry about him," Kardashian stated in the book, according to Us Weekly.
She added, "And that’s a big burden of having kids with someone who you don’t necessarily get along with. My kids would never know that." Kardashian, 46, and West, 49, were married from 2014 until their divorce was finalized in 2022. They share North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7.
Despite past conflicts, Kardashian noted that their co-parenting has been "pretty smooth for a while," attributing this to limited communication. "But when we see each other, we give each other a hug," she said.
The SKIMS founder emphasized her efforts to set aside past negative experiences while maintaining boundaries. Her priority is ensuring her children maintain a strong relationship with their father. "I want them to think their dad is the greatest," she stated.
Kardashian has extended an open invitation to West to spend time with their children at her home, encouraging their bond. "Anytime you’re in town, come for dinner with us, see the kids as much as you want, take them out, come over and hang out. That’s their family. So I encourage the relationship with their dad so much," she said.
She has offered West the opportunity to have meals or even stay overnight at the children's home, with Kardashian willing to leave to ensure his comfort. "Do you want to come to dinner? I’ll leave the house. Come and have dinner with the kids in their house so that they can feel comfy. Sleep over for a few nights?"
The former couple even spent Christmas together last year, with Kardashian inviting West and his wife, Bianca Censori, to stay overnight on Christmas Eve. She indicated plans to extend a similar invitation this holiday season.
"Last Christmas, I said, ‘Sleep over on Christmas Eve. Bring your girlfriend.’ I’m easy! ‘Let’s all do Christmas together,’" she recalled. "And I’ll recommend it again this year. I will sweep everything under the rug, all the horrible things he has said about me, so that the kids can see their father."
Kardashian expressed ongoing concern for West's well-being, observing that while he "always seems to pick himself up," watching him struggle causes her sadness. "And I don’t think it’s going to get better. I pray it does. For my kids," she added.
Communication between Kardashian and West is reportedly managed through Censori and West's manager.
West addressed his bipolar disorder diagnosis and apologized for antisemitic comments in a Wall Street Journal advertisement in January. Earlier in October, Kardashian revealed she employs five nannies to assist with the care of their four children.
