New footage has emerged showing Vickrum Digwa, who murdered 18-year-old finance student Henry Nowak, telling his mother to take the knife used in the stabbing away from the crime scene. Digwa's mother, Kiran Kaur, 53, was subsequently jailed for three years for assisting an offender.

Digwa was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years on June 1 for the murder, which occurred on December 3, 2025. He had falsely claimed that Mr. Nowak had racially abused him. The video, recorded on Digwa's phone and pointed towards the ground, captures him speaking to Kaur in Punjabi, instructing her to take the weapon. A transcript released by the Crown Prosecution Service indicates Digwa said, "Take this," referring to the knife.

During Kaur's sentencing on July 17, Judge William Mousley KC stated that by the time Digwa told his mother to remove the weapon, she knew or believed he had stabbed and injured Henry. The judge noted that a responsible parent would have challenged their son's actions and encouraged him to do the right thing. Instead, Kaur took the knife home and placed it within a collection of weapons in her son's bedroom, intended to conceal its use and help him avoid capture.

The judge added that Kaur's actions contributed to her son's pretense of innocence and degradation of Mr. Nowak, who was dying when he was arrested. Following Kaur's sentencing, Mr. Nowak's family expressed disappointment and vowed to continue their campaign for justice. They urged the government to enact changes for their son.

Kaur's family had previously asserted she did the right thing by protecting her child. Digwa's grandmother, Bimla Kaur, told the Daily Mail that her daughter-in-law was only trying to protect her son, stating that Kiran was a devout Sikh and a housewife who focused on raising her children. Bimla described Vickrum as a difficult boy, suggesting his upbringing in Britain contributed to his behavior.

The court heard that Mr. Nowak was walking home after a night out when he encountered Digwa. A brief altercation ensued, during which Digwa, who carried a dagger in accordance with his Sikh faith, fatally stabbed Mr. Nowak in the chest. He then inflicted two stab wounds to Mr. Nowak's leg and one to his abdomen, with the victim also sustaining a slash wound to his face.

Digwa filmed his victim as he tried to escape. When police arrived, Digwa falsely claimed Mr. Nowak was the aggressor, alleging he had been punched, kicked, and subjected to a racist remark. Police bodycam footage showed Mr. Nowak being handcuffed as he lay dying, despite his pleas that he could not breathe and had been stabbed. Officers on the scene are currently under investigation for potential gross misconduct. Sir Keir Starmer has commented on the footage, stating it made him feel sick and that serious questions need to be answered.
