Kiké Hernández's Playoff Prowess Lifts Dodgers to Crucial NLDS Victory

Kiké Hernández once again proved to be a postseason difference-maker, launching a pivotal two-run home run off Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale in the fourth inning to propel the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-1 victory in Game 3 of the National League Division Series.

The win gave the Dodgers a two-games-to-one lead in the best-of-five series. Hernández, who has a well-documented history of elevating his game in October, found himself starting at third base against the formidable Sale, a decision manager Dave Roberts described as needing "that Kiké dust."

Hernández, 35, has faced questions about his playoff performance throughout his career, often attributing it to a unique ability to focus under pressure. Despite a regular season hampered by injuries and limited playing time, appearing in just 41 games with fewer than 100 plate appearances, he consistently finds a way to deliver when it matters most.

"It’s something I take a lot of pride in, but don’t really think about it too much," Hernández said of his playoff success. "It’s something that, once I’m done playing, I’m going to look back on and be really proud of, because the way my career has gone, in terms of finding myself each and every year in October."

His two-run blast in the fourth inning broke a scoreless tie. Hernández connected on a changeup from Sale, sending the ball 406 feet into left field. This marked his 17th career postseason home run, tying him with other notable sluggers like Aaron Judge and David Ortiz.

The Dodgers' offense had struggled early against Sale before Hernández's intervention. Following his home run, Freddie Freeman added an insurance run with a solo shot in the same inning.

Pitching was also key for Los Angeles, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivering seven strong innings. Yamamoto, who had received a confidence boost from Hernández during a jam in the fifth inning, limited the Braves to one run.

Teammate Miguel Rojas praised Hernández's impact, stating, "He wants the situation. He wants the moment. He wants to be the guy. His value is way higher than what people think that he can be. He’s a great asset for us."

Hernández's playoff resume includes numerous clutch moments, such as his three-homer performance in the 2017 NLCS and a game-tying pinch-hit blast in the 2020 NLCS. His ability to perform under pressure is a significant asset for the Dodgers as they navigate the postseason.
