Kiffin's Return to Ole Miss Ends in Defeat as Chambliss Stars

Ole Miss secured a significant victory over LSU on Saturday night, marking a defeat for coach Lane Kiffin in his return to Oxford, Mississippi. The triumph was spearheaded by quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, Kiffin's former protégé at Ole Miss.

Chambliss delivered a commanding performance, passing for 363 yards and two touchdowns, and adding a crucial tiebreaking touchdown run in the fourth quarter. This win avenged Kiffin's departure from Ole Miss before the previous season's College Football Playoff. Kiffin had previously recruited Chambliss from a Division II program and helped develop him into a standout player.

LSU mounted a comeback after trailing 24-7 at halftime, managing to tie the game. However, Chambliss orchestrated a decisive 75-yard touchdown drive, even with star running back Kewan Lacy sidelined due to a left shoulder injury. Chambliss's 14-yard touchdown run, a deceptive fake handoff that saw him outrace a defender to the pylon, gave Ole Miss an eight-point lead with just over six minutes remaining. An ensuing two-point conversion extended the advantage.

LSU's final drive reached the Ole Miss six-yard line, but a potential game-tying pass from quarterback Sam Leavitt to tight end Zach Grace on third down fell incomplete. On fourth down, Leavitt's pass was deflected off the helmet of defensive end Kam Franklin, and the ball was intercepted in the end zone by Jaylon Braxton, sealing the victory for Ole Miss.

Leavitt contributed 153 passing yards and a touchdown, along with 63 rushing yards for LSU in the contest. The game was described as ill-tempered, with some Ole Miss fans reportedly chanting against Kiffin.
