Kid Rock Describes 'Epic' Dinner With Trump, Maher, and Smith
The musician shared details of a White House dinner where he, President Trump, Bill Maher, and Stephen A. Smith found common ground on political issues.
Musician Kid Rock recounted an "epic" dinner at the White House attended by President Trump, comedian Bill Maher, and ESPN host Stephen A. Smith, during an appearance on "Fox & Friends." According to Kid Rock, the unlikely group found agreement on the issue of socialism and communism.
"Last night, I’m having dinner at the White House with the president, Bill Maher and Stephen A. Smith. We all agreed socialism and communism has no place to have a foothold in our government," Kid Rock stated. He contrasted this shared view with the political stance of Michigan's Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed, whom he described as "screaming socialism."
Kid Rock characterized the dinner as a productive discussion, highlighting the ability of individuals with differing political affiliations to engage in meaningful conversation. "It was epic," he said. "And the thing that was the greatest, there’s so many points, I could do an hour on it, is that, you know, two Democrats, two Republicans sit down, break bread, have laughs, talk about, have tough conversations on a lot of the issues."
During the dinner, topics ranged from "socialism and communism to the war in Iran," Kid Rock reported. He noted that Bill Maher raised concerns about assisting Afghan interpreters, while Stephen A. Smith focused on unemployment within the Black community and the funding of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Kid Rock recalled reminding Smith that the Trump administration had allocated $174 million to HBCUs in 2016. He also conveyed Smith's perspective that the Trump administration's stance on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) might have deterred corporate funding for HBCUs. Kid Rock stated that Smith emphasized the importance of continued corporate support for HBCUs to strengthen the Black community.
This was not the first dinner Kid Rock and Maher had with President Trump at the White House. Maher had previously mentioned on his "Club Random" podcast that he planned to have dinner with the president again, describing Trump as "really nice" during their prior encounters.
In addition to discussing his political encounters, Kid Rock also spoke about his new album, "Halfway 2 Jesus," which features collaborations with artists such as Eminem and Lil Wayne. He described the album as a project that brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, unified by the message of faith.
