Actor Kevin Sorbo has stated that Hollywood engages in a form of "blacklisting" against individuals with conservative or Christian viewpoints, likening the industry's behavior to that of "seventh grade mean girls." Sorbo, who stars in the faith-based film "Elijah Peel," told Fox News Digital that this environment fosters a culture where creators who hold traditional values may be ostracized.
Sorbo, best known for his role as Hercules, described the situation as "ridiculous and childish," emphasizing that differing opinions should be accepted. He suggested that conservatives in Hollywood are now "in the closet" due to past experiences of those who have been "canceled," but he encourages them to speak out and not let fear dictate their actions. Sorbo noted that many actors have approached him at events, thanking him for being a voice for them.
"Elijah Peel" is a drama inspired by a true story about a rock star who experiences a career downturn and personal struggles following a near-fatal heart attack. The film, executive produced by Willie and Korie Robertson of "Duck Dynasty," follows the protagonist's encounter with a young girl whose faith prompts him to confront his lifestyle. Sorbo plays the rock star's talent manager, tasked with preventing his life from completely unraveling.
The actor also touched upon the themes of addiction and redemption present in the movie, suggesting that some struggles may involve spiritual dimensions beyond physical or psychological factors. Sorbo stated he has encountered what he considers "demonic stuff" during his time in Hollywood and criticized the removal of Christian and religious references from institutions. He linked this trend to a departure from America's founding Christian values.
Sorbo believes that Hollywood rarely explores stories of redemption after hitting rock bottom, a theme he finds compelling and relevant. He indicated that "Elijah Peel" aligns with his preference for movies based on true stories that offer positive messages, something he feels has become less common in the industry.
"Elijah Peel" is currently in theaters.
