Kevin Long Expected to Speak With Mets About Coaching Return

Kevin Long, who previously served as the New York Mets' hitting coach when the team last reached the World Series in 2015, is scheduled to meet with team officials on Tuesday to discuss a potential coaching position. The meeting comes after Long was dismissed by the Philadelphia Phillies last week, where he spent five seasons overseeing their hitting department. The Mets are currently seeking to fill a vacancy in their hitting leadership after director of major league hitting Jeff Albert was fired. Albert had held the position for one season. Hitting coach Troy Snitker and assistant hitting coach Rafael Fernandez remain with the team. Long, 59, has a notable coaching history, including World Series championships with the Yankees and Nationals. During his tenure with the Nationals, he worked with Juan Soto. His time in Philadelphia also included a World Series appearance in 2022. Long previously spent three seasons with the Mets and was a finalist for their managerial position before the 2018 season. Reports indicate that Long has not spoken with any other teams regarding coaching opportunities.
