Keri Russell Recalls Sneaky Sex on 'The Americans' Set

Keri Russell revealed that she and her partner, Matthew Rhys, engaged in intimate moments on the set of their acclaimed FX series, "The Americans," while in disguise.

Russell shared the anecdote during an appearance on the podcast "Dear Chelsea," recalling the early days of their relationship. "We were falling in love and staying up all night and having sex all the time and just wearing disguises, like, I’m f—ing [in] crazy wigs and wearing pearls," she said.

She described the experience as "insanity" and recalled the secrecy and excitement of their encounters. "When have you ever worn pearls and [been] f—ing in trailers and f—ing everywhere," Russell added.

The actress, 50, and Rhys, 51, began dating in late 2013 after Russell's split from her ex-husband, Shane Deary. The two actors grew close while filming "The Americans," where they portrayed Soviet KGB intelligence officers posing as an American married couple. The series concluded in 2018 after six seasons.

During the podcast, Russell also discussed her views on marriage, noting that she and Rhys, with whom she shares a 10-year-old son, Sam, are in no rush to wed after 13 years together. "I’ve had a big party, you know. I get to dress up all the time, and I know for a lot of people, marriage is something different," she explained.

Russell also addressed Rhys's acceptance speeches at the 2026 Emmy Awards, where he won two awards. She clarified that she had given him permission not to thank her, as he was nervous about public speaking. "I just said, ‘Take me off your plate.’ Like, you don’t have to thank me. I know you love me,'" she recalled telling him. "I don’t care if you want to thank the dog walker. You do whatever you want to do."
