Keri Russell Recalls Intimate Moments on 'The Americans' Set
The actress revealed she and co-star Matthew Rhys engaged in intimate acts while in spy disguises during filming.
Keri Russell has shared intimate details about her time on the set of the FX series "The Americans," revealing that she and her partner, Matthew Rhys, engaged in sexual activity while wearing their spy disguises. Russell and Rhys, who played Soviet KGB intelligence officers posing as an American couple, developed a romantic relationship during the show's run.
During an appearance on the "Dear Chelsea" podcast, Russell recounted, "We were falling in love and staying up all night and having sex all the time and just wearing disguises, like, I'm f[in] crazy wigs and wearing pearls." She described the experience as "insanity," adding that it was "so fun and sneaky, and sexy, and so good."
The couple has been together for 13 years and are parents to a son, Sam, 10, in addition to Russell's two children from a previous marriage. Despite their long-term relationship, Russell expressed no immediate plans for marriage, stating that she considers the institution "antiquated."
"I've had a big party, you know. I get to dress up all the time, and I know for a lot of people, marriage is something different," Russell explained. "People used to be married to have a credit card. We can have credit cards now. I don't need my last name to go away. Like, I'm cool, if you want to be here, be here. If you don't, that's cool too."
Russell also addressed the public's reaction to Rhys not thanking her in his Emmy Awards acceptance speeches. She revealed that they had a mutual understanding and a pact to ease his nerves, as both were anxious about public speaking.
"He was just so nervous. I mean, we were all nervous. But it's a lot of pressure," Russell said. "And I looked at him a few days before and I said: 'Okay, well, can you articulate what you're most nervous about?' And he's like: 'Yeah, having to speak'. And I said: 'Totally.' And I said: 'Take me off your plate. Like, you don't have to thank me, I know you love me, take me off your plate. There's so many people you have to thank.'"
