Keri Russell, an Emmy-nominated actress, stated that she sometimes buys her own red carpet gowns because she does not consider herself to be exceptionally famous. In an interview with Variety, Russell explained that she "sometimes can't get a dress" for awards shows.
"We're not that famous," Russell said, speaking alongside her husband, actor Matthew Rhys. She elaborated that while some of their friends are considerably more famous and lead very different lives, their own level of celebrity is less intense. "People don't really care about us — in a great way," she noted.
The couple, who met while filming "The Americans" and have been together since 2013, also discussed their career choices. Rhys joked that his primary consideration for selecting projects is financial compensation. "What pays most, wins, very simple," he stated, adding, "Three children and a mortgage... I'll get after it."
Russell is nominated for an Emmy for her role in "The Diplomat," while Rhys is nominated for his work in "Widow's Bay" and "The Beast In Me." The couple has four children between them. Russell has two children from a previous marriage and a son with Rhys.
Despite their accolades and growing body of work, Russell maintains her perspective on their public profile. "Some people in our neighborhood are very famous, and their life is very different. And it seems so hard," she remarked, contrasting their experiences with those of more high-profile celebrities. Their stylist, Frank Flemming, manages their wardrobes for both professional and public appearances.
