Keri Russell appeared to react to partner Matthew Rhys not mentioning her in two Emmy acceptance speeches, with behind-the-scenes footage showing her swatting his hand away.
Rhys won two lead actor awards in one night at the Emmys, a first for any star. However, he did not thank or mention Russell in either of his acceptance speeches.
Video shared by Yahoo News reporter Taryn Ryder shows Russell swatting Rhys's hand as he attempted to wrap her in an embrace for a photographer after his second win. She then pulled him in for a kiss before they sat down and she spoke to him, placing her hand on his shoulder.
Fans speculated on social media that Russell's gesture was a response to being omitted from his speeches. One viewer on X questioned the interaction, expressing hope that the couple would not break up.
Rhys later stated in a backstage interview that he would not display his Emmy awards at home until Russell wins one herself. He explained that his previous Emmy, won for "The Americans," was stored in the basement with a similar condition.
During his first win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for "The Beast in Me," Rhys did not acknowledge Russell, whom he met while they co-starred in "The Americans." Instead, he hugged his "The Beast in Me" co-star Claire Danes.
Rhys received a second award later in the evening for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for "Widow's Bay." He again failed to mention Russell, though he did thank his parents and sister, who was present at the ceremony.
While Russell did not receive mention in Rhys's speeches, she was seen enthusiastically cheering and applauding from their table when he accepted his second award. One user on X posted video of the moment, stating, "THE CHEER FROM HER...... all that matters."
Russell was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for "The Diplomat" but lost to Rhea Seehorn for "Pluribus."
