London, Kentucky Mayor Randall Weddle is entangled in a series of legal challenges, including a civil suit filed by Lamborghini Financial Services, Inc. seeking to repossess a 2019 Lamborghini Urus for over $60,000 in unpaid loan payments. The lawsuit states that Weddle has failed to make payments on the vehicle since February.
Weddle, who earns an annual salary of $64,000, has publicly claimed the case has been dismissed, but court records as of Tuesday afternoon indicate the legal action remains active and has not been formally filed in Laurel County Court. A representative for Lamborghini Financial Services has not yet responded to requests for comment.
This legal action is the latest in a string of controversies surrounding the mayor. He was previously accused by American Express of owing more than $713,000 in unpaid corporate credit card debt. Weddle, who is the primary agent for BC Recycling LLC, has not responded to these allegations, which remain active.
In March, Weddle was indicted by a grand jury on charges of making illegal campaign contributions. Specifically, he faces two counts of exceeding legal contribution limits to the Kentucky Democratic Party and two counts of exceeding limits for Governor Andy Beshear's 2023 reelection campaign. Weddle pleaded not guilty to these charges on March 31 and is scheduled to return to court on July 15. Following the indictment, Beshear's campaign refunded $12,000 and the KDP returned $190,000 in contributions, after it was determined the funds were donated via a credit card belonging to Weddle and his wife, not the individuals supposedly connected to the mayor. At the time of the alleged contributions, Kentucky law limited individual donations to $2,000 per election to a candidate and $5,000 annually to a state party.
Residency Dispute and Election Ineligibility
Adding to his legal challenges, a judge recently ruled Weddle ineligible to run for re-election as mayor in November. The decision stemmed from a dispute over his residency. Petitioners argued that Weddle resides in Keavy, approximately 20 minutes outside of London, despite owning a property in London. Public records indicate Weddle and his wife live in a four-bedroom, four-bathroom home in Keavy valued at nearly $700,000. Under state law, mayoral candidates must have resided in the city they seek to represent for at least one year prior to the election. Judge Michael O. Caperton granted an emergency motion for removal, finding Weddle not to be a 'bona fide candidate' for the upcoming election. Weddle has stated he respectfully disagrees with the ruling but accepts it and intends to finish his current term.
Extravagant Lifestyle Amidst Legal Battles
Despite these legal and financial entanglements, Weddle and his wife, Victoria Weddle, have documented an extravagant lifestyle on social media. Images from Victoria Weddle's 40th birthday celebration in 2023, which was themed as a Paris-inspired event, showcased luxury items. Victoria Weddle, 43, was pictured wearing a red leather bodycon dress and carrying a Louis Vuitton handbag valued at nearly $5,000. The celebration also featured a display of Louis Vuitton gift boxes and a custom cake resembling the brand's luggage. The couple also has two sons and has recently welcomed grandchildren, according to social media posts.
