Kentucky Little League Player, 6, Dies Suddenly in Sleep

Neven Akai Coofer, a 6-year-old Little League baseball player from Kentucky, died suddenly and unexpectedly in his sleep on October 1. No cause for his death has been released.

Described as a devoted and passionate baseball enthusiast, Neven had played the sport since the age of four. He was a beloved member of the Lexington, Kentucky, baseball community, where he formed friendships across different walks of life.

The Southeastern Cal Ripken Baseball League is providing support to the Coofer family during this difficult time. Aaron Anderkin, the league's Vice President, stated that the organization is focused on demonstrating the community's love and support for Neven and his family.

To help alleviate financial burdens, the league's board of directors established a GoFundMe account. The online fundraiser aims to cover funeral expenses, medical bills, and other unforeseen costs the family may encounter. As of October 6, the GoFundMe had raised over $25,000.

The Lexington community has shown solidarity with the Coofers. Many have offered their support, including Neven's older brother, Niko, who also plays in the Southeastern League. Neven's parents, Dominik and Gordana Coofer, expressed profound gratitude for the community's outpouring of support.

An obituary for Neven described him as a child who brought immense love, laughter, and happiness into the world during his six years. Dominik Coofer shared on Facebook that Neven provided him with the light and energy needed each day, calling him his "snuggle buddy" and a unique presence in his heart that will remain empty.

The family has also requested that community members share favorite video memories of Neven.
