Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has called on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to publicly disclose his health status, raising questions about whether the Republican senator is fit to continue serving in his role. The statements come amid ongoing concerns about McConnell's recent health incidents.

McConnell has been recovering in the hospital following unspecified health events. In an effort to reassure the public, several Republican lawmakers and conservative commentators have stated they have spoken with McConnell. They described him as alert and engaged, asserting he is fit for duty.

Conservative commentator Scott Jennings shared on X that he had a nearly 20-minute conversation with McConnell on Tuesday, discussing topics ranging from foreign policy to Senate history. Jennings stated that the senator was recovering in the hospital but appeared engaged in the discussion.

Similarly, Kate Cooksey Noyes, a spokesperson for Senator John Barrasso, reported that Barrasso had a “lengthy conversation” with McConnell. She added that the senator was “fully engaged and is eager to get back to the Senate.”

McConnell’s wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, addressed inquiries about her husband’s condition. Responding to criticism for remaining abroad during his health crisis, Chao told local news in Kentucky that his “health did not warrant an immediate return to the U.S.” while she was on a “long-planned trip to China.”
