A 10-month-old baby girl died after being left in her grandmother's car for about eight hours outside a medical clinic in Madisonville, Kentucky, police said. The baby, Scottie Gwyn Crowell, was discovered still strapped in the backseat of the vehicle by her grandmother, Dr. Stacey Fazenbaker, 61, on August 13.

Temperatures on that day reached 95 degrees Fahrenheit, with the interior of the car peaking at 115 degrees, according to reports. Fazenbaker had offered to take the infant to daycare that morning. However, when Scottie's father went to pick her up at 4 p.m., he was informed by staff that the baby had not been dropped off. Authorities believe Fazenbaker drove directly to work and forgot the child in the car.

Fazenbaker, a physician at Owensboro Health Multicare, reportedly ran out of the clinic with co-workers upon realizing the situation, but it was too late to save the child. Officers attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the infant could not be revived.

Madisonville Police Major Jason McKnight stated that Fazenbaker was tested for drugs and alcohol, and no positive results were anticipated. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the official cause of death. McKnight indicated that charges could be sought before a grand jury convenes as the investigation into the incident continues.

Fazenbaker had relocated to Madisonville approximately one year prior to be closer to her daughter, Sydni Crowell, who is also an OB-GYN. Scottie was the second child of Sydni Crowell, born in September 2025 via in vitro fertilization. Tributes to the baby girl were posted on social media by family members.

Stacey Fazenbaker, 61, allegedly forgot to drop the 10-month old off at daycare.
