Kelly Stafford on LA Pressure: 'It's ramped up here'
The wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford discusses the pressure to maintain a certain appearance in Southern California and the potential impact on her daughters.
Kelly Stafford, wife of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, has spoken about the pressures of maintaining a certain appearance in Los Angeles. The couple relocated to Southern California in 2021 when Matthew was traded from the Detroit Lions.
"I, as a 37-year-old woman, feel pressure to look a certain way here," Kelly stated in an interview with Us Weekly. "It's normal for everyone to do things and whatnot. I feel that pressure." She expressed concern about her four daughters growing up in an environment where such standards are prevalent.
"I can only imagine my daughters growing up here. I would hope that they see it as, 'Oh, yeah, that's just what people do here, but we're good.' But I think it will be hard. There's just a lot here," she added.
Kelly also touched on the general etiquette and respect observed in Southern California, noting that while important everywhere, it feels amplified in Los Angeles. "You use your manners. You open the door for people. To me, things that matter. You have respect for people. It's everywhere, right? It's not just California. But I do think it's ramped up here."
Stafford's contract with the Rams extends through the 2027 season, but speculation about his potential retirement has already begun. Kelly admitted to daily contemplation about whether the family will remain in California long-term, citing the importance of family while acknowledging her daughters' established routines and friendships.
"Family's first for us. I miss my family like crazy," said Kelly, who is from Georgia. "But I also have to realize that my daughters are older and have made friends and have routines and sports teams. My husband loves it out here. So, what's the compromise? I don't know yet."
Previously, Kelly has discussed undergoing cosmetic procedures, including a "mommy makeover" after three pregnancies. She detailed having breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, and a gluteal autograft procedure, noting that these surgeries left her feeling confident but also acknowledging the timing considerations involved in such procedures, especially if considering future pregnancies.
