Kelly Stafford, wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, has voiced her displeasure with the team's demanding 2026 schedule, citing the extensive travel, holiday games, and a lack of a significant bye week.
Her reaction, shared on Instagram, included a middle finger emoji and a sarcastic comment about the upcoming NFL season. "Me just now realizing the Rams play in Australia, play on Christmas, play on Thanksgiving Eve, have 7 prime time games, and DON’T HAVE A REAL BYE WEEK," Kelly wrote. "Parenting this season will be such a joy."
The Rams' schedule projects the team to travel approximately 34,847 miles during the 2026 regular season, the second-highest mileage in the NFL. This figure is largely due to the team opening the season against the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, marking the first NFL regular-season game ever to be held in that country. Following their return from Australia, the Rams will play additional road games and participate in numerous nationally televised contests.
Beyond the extensive travel, the Rams rank low in preparation and rest conditions. According to Sharp Football Analysis, the team has a net rest differential of minus-six days, a significant decrease from their plus-10 advantage in the previous season. Los Angeles is also scheduled to play five games with less rest than their opponents, a statistic tied for the second-highest in the league.
Kelly Stafford's comment about the lack of a "real bye week" also has a statistical basis. While the Rams have a bye in Week 11, their subsequent game is on Thanksgiving Eve against the Green Bay Packers. Notably, the Packers also have a bye the week prior, meaning neither team will gain a competitive rest advantage. Sharp Football identifies the Rams and Packers as two of three teams whose 2026 byes are effectively negated in this manner.
The schedule also includes seven primetime games for the Rams, matching an NFL record. The inclusion of games on Thanksgiving Eve and Christmas further contribute to an unconventional calendar.
For Kelly Stafford, the demanding schedule presents additional challenges as she manages four daughters. She has previously discussed the logistical difficulties of traveling with multiple children for road games, a complexity now amplified by the international travel to Australia.
The Rams' schedule is also backloaded, with Sharp's analysis indicating the team faces the NFL's most difficult opponents from Week 12 onwards, following a challenging initial five-week stretch and a comparatively easier middle portion of the season.
While the schedule is expected to be compelling for fans with its high-profile matchups and unique game dates, it appears to present significant logistical hurdles for the Stafford family.
