Kelly Rizzo Reflects on Grief, Guilt, and Moving Forward After Bob Saget's Death

Kelly Rizzo, widow of the late comedian Bob Saget, has spoken openly about the complex emotions that accompany grief, including the guilt she sometimes feels for experiencing happiness. In a recent reflection shared on Instagram, Rizzo, 47, described the "weird realities" of coping with loss nearly five years after Saget's unexpected death.

Rizzo, who is now in a relationship with actor Breckin Meyer, noted that she sometimes feels "guilt for feeling happy." She also admitted to previously judging others who began new relationships soon after losing a spouse, only to realize that grief is a personal journey without a set timeline.

"Sometimes you catch yourself judging someone else's grief. Which of course is off limits!" Rizzo wrote, reflecting on her own evolving perspective. She added that the crying "still shows up at the weirdest times" and that she sometimes questions if her grief "counts less because I only knew Bob for six years," a period that included just over three years of marriage.

Saget died in January 2022 at the age of 65. Investigators determined his death was accidental, resulting from a fall backward that led to a head injury. He reportedly fell asleep and did not wake up.

Rizzo has found that grief changes and evolves over time. She noted that dreams of Saget have only recently begun to appear, and her life remains distinctly divided into "Before Bob Died and After Bob Died."

In February 2024, Rizzo and Meyer, 52, made their relationship public. She has praised Meyer for his supportive nature and his understanding as she navigates her grief. "He is very comfortable and confident," Rizzo said of Meyer, adding that he has been welcomed by Saget's three daughters: Aubrey, Lara, and Jennifer.

Rizzo has stated that she is not in any rush to remarry. Speaking to People in October 2024, she expressed contentment with her current life and her relationship with Meyer. "I'm not in a rush to do it. So I'm just enjoying life right now and just enjoying my time with (Meyer). And whatever happens one day happens," she said.

She also shared that Meyer has been respectful of Saget's legacy and comfortable in his relationship with her and Saget's family. "It does take a very confident, strong person to show up here. But he loved Bob too. So it's a very comfortable environment for him," Rizzo explained. She added that Saget's daughters "adore him. He adores them. It's been really, really nice. They've kind of welcomed him."
