Kelly Ripa, co-host of "Live with Kelly and Mark," has been absent from the show this week as she recovers from gum graft surgery. Her husband, Mark Consuelos, shared details about the procedure and her recovery on Monday's broadcast.

Consuelos explained that Ripa underwent the surgery to address receding gums. According to his account, the dentist imposed strict rules for her recovery, including a prohibition on talking. "She's not allowed to talk," Consuelos told the audience, noting that this is likely one of the most challenging restrictions for his wife, who he described as a "great conversationalist."

He added that Ripa is also required to eat soft foods and is forbidden from using straws or examining the surgical site by pulling down her lip. Consuelos reassured viewers that Ripa is "doing well" and "doing great," despite the discomfort. He described the procedure as "painful," noting that Ripa, who famously doesn't always use Novocaine at dental appointments, is experiencing significant pain from this surgery.

During Monday's show, Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers filled in as co-host. The show's official website indicates that other guest hosts will include Mila Kunis, Pamela Adlon, and Scott Foley throughout the week.

Consuelos and Ripa, who have been married for 30 years, first met in 1995 and later played a couple on the ABC soap opera "All My Children." They eloped in 1996 and have three children: Michael, Lola, and Joaquin. Michael has acted in their podcast series, Lola is an emerging musician, and Joaquin recently made his Broadway debut.
