Kelly Ripa Details "Embarrassing" Back Injury Sustained in Hotel Bathroom
The "Live with Kelly and Mark" co-host recounted a hotel incident where reaching for toilet paper led to a back strain.
Kelly Ripa shared an "embarrassing" story about how she injured her back while staying at a hotel with her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos.
During a recent segment of "Live with Kelly and Mark," Ripa, 55, described the incident, which occurred when she was trying to reach for toilet paper. She explained that the tissue dispenser was positioned unusually, forcing her to bend in an awkward way.
"Typically, the toilet tissue is on this side, like a normal person," Ripa told the audience. "But, we were staying at a hotel. It was over here, so, I went like that and hurt my back."
Ripa demonstrated the movement for the audience, showing how the unexpected reach caused the injury.
This recent mishap comes a few months after Ripa underwent gum graft surgery in late July. She had delayed the procedure for five years, citing that her dentist eventually insisted it was necessary. Ripa described the recovery as "a little strange" due to the stitches and swelling, which she initially joked about with her producers.
The TV personality's gum issues were attributed to "over brushing" and "over flossing." She is reportedly retraining herself to avoid the habits that led to the receding gums.
Ripa is known for her candid on-air confessions. In the past, she has shared other personal anecdotes, including taping the show without pants on during the pandemic and eating cereal during commercial breaks.
