Kelly Osbourne Opens Up About Weight Gain and Sobriety
The singer discusses recent weight fluctuations and her ongoing sobriety journey after the death of her father, Ozzy Osbourne.
Kelly Osbourne has revealed she has gained two stone in the past six months, admitting she was as surprised as others by photographs of herself at the BRITs ceremony earlier this year. The singer, 41, had previously caused concern for her health due to a significantly slimmer appearance at the event.
Osbourne has denied using weight loss injections, attributing her recent changes to a difficult period following the death of her father, Ozzy Osbourne, in July 2025, and a subsequent split from her fiancé Sid Wilson. She stated that she did not have an eating disorder but was struggling with sadness and an inability to care for herself.
"No one knows what people are dealing with in private, I was just sad," Osbourne told The Sun. "I don't wish that pain on anyone ever. And to do that in front of everyone just sucked."
Osbourne has a long history of being open about her weight insecurities, dating back to her teenage years on the reality show "The Osbournes." She recalled an instance where she was told she was "too fat for TV" and needed to lose weight to be considered a "movie star."
Her weight journey has included gastric sleeve surgery in 2018, which she credited, along with diet and exercise, for helping her shed 85 pounds. She later gained approximately 100 pounds during her pregnancy with her son Sidney in 2022 and developed gestational diabetes, which led her to avoid public appearances.
"She has told people that she got skinnier for her kid. She wants to be around for her kid and play and be with her kid for a long time, and now that she lost her dad, she sees that being something even more important," a source close to Osbourne said. "She doesn't want to be the weight she used to be and she is going to do whatever she needs to do to stay skinny."
Osbourne has consistently refuted rumors about using weight loss drugs like Ozempic, stating, "I know everybody thinks I took Ozempic. I did not take Ozempic. I don't know where that came from. My mom took Ozempic," she previously told Extra.
Despite her reassurances, those close to her are reportedly monitoring her situation, with one source noting that while no intervention is planned, people have observed her changes. The source added that Osbourne herself is not overly concerned with her appearance but can become upset by public commentary on it. "She has been working on her weight her entire life and the stress of her dad passing away has been a major struggle to deal with that is taking a toll on her look and health."
In a recent appearance on Paul Brunson's podcast, "We Need To Talk," Osbourne shared that she relapsed into drinking following her father's death, experiencing a period of intense grief that led her to feel like a "shell of myself."
She revealed that she is now eight months sober and has re-established sobriety after a period of struggle. "I was a shell of myself. I couldn't speak. I couldn't eat. I couldn't do anything. I was just empty," she said. "Broken in every way a human being could possibly be broken and completely unable to even take care of myself. I was at ground zero. I started drinking again. I lost my mind. I couldn't handle it."
Osbourne, who has battled drug and alcohol addiction since her teenage years, has found support from a close circle of people. "I have the most incredible people around me. I closed my circle because I lost a lot of friends because people don't like sadness and they expected me to be over it," she explained. "I will never be over it. I will never ever be over it."
She reflected on her past addiction, stating that drinking and drugs were never about partying but a way to escape difficult emotions. "I never did drugs because I wanted a party. I never drank because I wanted a party. I just didn't want to feel the pain."
Osbourne has returned to the UK, where she spent her early childhood before moving to Los Angeles with her family at age 13. She is currently focused on carving out a new life for herself.
