Kelly Osbourne Fears Son May Inherit Addiction

Kelly Osbourne, 41, has expressed deep-seated fears that her three-year-old son, Sidney, may develop an addiction, mirroring the substance abuse struggles she and her father, Ozzy Osbourne, have experienced.

Osbourne, who is now sober, spoke on Paul C Brunson's "We Need To Talk" podcast, stating her belief that addiction is a "genetic disorder." She worries about her son inheriting a predisposition, whether genetic or environmental, after her own battles with drug and alcohol addiction since her teenage years.

"I want him to be confident enough in himself that he never even feels that kind of pain that he thinks that he needs to numb," Osbourne said.

She recalled her own past struggles, admitting, "I always said 'I'm never going to drink, I'm never going to do that, I'm fine without it'. And I ended up exactly the same as my dad."

Ozzy Osbourne, the former Black Sabbath frontman, battled decades of drug and alcohol abuse, with notable incidents including biting the head off a bat onstage and an attempt to harm his wife Sharon Osbourne while under the influence. Despite his off-stage struggles, he achieved significant success in his solo career and later found a new audience through the reality television show "The Osbournes."

Kelly Osbourne herself rose to fame alongside her family on the MTV reality show. She has been open about how early fame contributed to her own insecurity and self-doubt, leading to her struggles with substance abuse. Osbourne has since relocated to the UK, a move she described as an effort to rediscover herself, though she noted it has caused some dissatisfaction within her wider family.

"I get it because I don't want to miss out on anything that my nieces are doing. But I also - I'm a mother and I have my own responsibilities and my own life to live and I'm taking this time to be a bit selfish," Osbourne stated, referring to her current focus on her own life and responsibilities as a mother.
